Fall 2008 Newsletter

Happy Holidays!  We have some exciting news to share with everyone.  The ACA will be launching a quarterly newsletter featuring latest chef information and recipes.  This coming 2009 the ACA is returning to its original mission to focus on food, chef camaraderie, social events where members enjoy each other’s restaurant.  The past six years, Chef Chris Yeo has done a great job leading the ACA to new heights and promoting the association.  In January of next year Chef Lawrence Chu will be the new president leading ACA’s many exciting and new events.

New Member

We like to take this opportunity to feature our new member Daniel Sudar from Red Lantern Restaurant in Redwood City – which features home-style Southeast Asian cuisine from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, North Carolina NC N.C. , Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and other countries in the region.

The sense of satisfaction Sudar derived from watching people enjoy his creations was addictive, and he knew he was destined to be a chef. He cooked in a high-end hotel in Indonesia for several years before coming to San Francisco. Not content with just one culinary school degree, Sudar completed his studies at the California Culinary Academy in 1997.

ACA News

Chef Chris Yeo, Owner of Straits and Sino opened Straits Atlanta this May and will be opening more restaurants in 2009 – August - Straits Houston and October – Sino Miami.  If you plan to visit these destinations in 2009 please drop by and check out these beautiful restaurants.

Chef Philippe Striffeler of Hotel Nikko will be the captain for the 2009 Taipei Chef Competition.  Chef Philippe will hand pick five qualified chefs to join him in this competition to create a five course menu.  They will meet regularly to practice and discuss the menu as a team and travel together to Taipei. Oklahoma OK Okla. , On November 6, Chef Khai and Chef Chu were part of the panel of judges for the California Culinary Academy Asian Chefs Student Scholarship award.  CCA student chefs created recipes using ingredients which were seasonal, representational, and easy to eat standing up for 300 people.  Each student accompanied the recipe with a 250 word essay about their recipe development.  The ACA 2008 award was $1000 credited to the student’s CCA tuition account.

Chef Ming Tsai’s Ming’s TV show “Simply Ming” premiered its 6th season this past October – check your local listings.  Ming Tsai's Blue Ginger underwent a Rockwell Group-designed renovation/expansion, creating a chic, feng shui inspired space, order zithromax(Azithromycin) no prescription. Chinese Restaurant News Awards - the Asian Chefs Association and the Asian Chefs Foundation are nominated winners of two awards for their charitable contribution to the Asian international community.  Being one of the most respected Chinese in the Bay Area for more than 30 years, Chef Chu is invited to be the recipient of the award for ACA and Chef Khai is invited to receive the ACF award for his effort in fighting anti-human trafficking in Southeast Asia.  The award ceremony will take place in Las Vegas at the Rios Hotel and Casino on January 5, zithromax(Azithromycin) without prescription, 2009.

ACA Food Drive for Glide Memorial Church

This holiday the ACA will prepare Chinese gourmet menu served to homeless, disabled and low income citizens.  The event is spearheaded by Chef Chu and Chef Khai.  The menu consists of Sweet and Sour Pork, Order zithromax(Azithromycin) pills, Stirred Fried Chicken with Vegetable, Chinese Egg Rolls, Steamed Rice, Asian Cole Slaw, Dessert and Beverages.  We encourage ACA chefs to participate in food preparing and cooking on Sunday December 14 and other members on Monday December 15 for dining service, zithromax(Azithromycin) pharmacy.

Acknowledgements

This past June chef Tim Luym at Poleng Lounge hosted an ACA Going Green seminar.  Speakers included Karen Diggs, Certified Nutrition & Therapeutic Chef, Grant Brians of Heirloom Organic Gardens and Ritu Primlani of Thimmakka.   The seminar focused on healthy living, Kansas KS Kans. , organic and sustainable farming, and developing a sustainable resources and practice to a critical global environment.

Our chef friend John Bentley at John Bentley’s of Woodside CA donated his food, time and labor for the 2008 Indochine event.  We would like to acknowledge his generosity to the ACA.

Chef Chu’s close friend Victor Lu of Dong Vingh Company has generously donated 1600 egg rolls for the ACA Christmas Food Drive, order zithromax(Azithromycin) from canada.

Yoshi Masuda of Kikkoman International has donated all the sauces for the ACA’s Food Drive for five years in a row.
